Diagram
shows the slotted brass "foot" [the crutch] and the metal pendulum
hanger which passes through it. This unit of hanger and crutch is
equipped with a slip clutch that allows for adjustment.
1. Check that pendulum hanger is just free to slide in the slotted
brass crutch foot. It must not touch the front or back of the slot.
if necessary, bend the brass arm to achieve this freedom of
movement. A dab of Vaseline at this point of contact is helpful.
2. Grasp the
slotted crutch foot as shown. The crutch will move easily for a
short distance, then resistance will be felt. Continued pressure
will "slip" the crutch foot. This changes the beat position. Only a
very slight movement is required normally. If moved too far right or
left, no tick at all will be heard. Make minor adjustments right or
left until beat position is correct. This position can be heard as a
nice evenly spaced tick tock.

Diagram
shows the slotted brass "foot" [the crutch] and the silver pendulum
hanger which passes through it. This unit of hanger and crutch is
equipped with a disc that allows for adjustment.
1. Check that pendulum hanger is just free to slide in the slotted
brass crutch foot. It must not touch the front or back of the slot.
If necessary, bend the brass arm to achieve this freedom of
movement. A dab of Vaseline at this point of contact is helpful.
2. Grasp the adjustment disc as shown. The disc will move easily for
a short distance. This changes the beat position. Only a very slight
movement is required normally. If moved too far right or left, no
tick at all will be heard. Make minor adjustments right or left
until beat position is correct. This position can be heard as a nice
evenly spaced tick tock.

Diagram
shows the slotted brass "foot" [the crutch] and the silver pendulum
hanger which passes through it. This unit of hanger and crutch is
equipped with a screw that allows for adjustment.
1. Check that pendulum hanger is just free to slide in the slotted
brass crutch foot. It must not touch the front or back of the slot.
If necessary, bend the brass arm to achieve this freedom of
movement. A dab of Vaseline at this point of contact is helpful.
2. Grasp the
adjustment screw as shown. The screw will move easily for many turns
in either direction. This changes the beat position. Only a very
slight movement is required normally. If moved too far right or
left, no tick at all will be heard. Make minor adjustments right or
left until beat position is correct. This position can be heard as a
nice evenly spaced tick tock.

Diagram
shows the bent brass "loop" [the crutch] and the steel pendulum
hanger which passes through it. This verge wire must be bent to
achieve adjustment.
1. Check that pendulum hanger is just free to slide in the slotted
brass crutch loop. It must not touch the front or back of the slot.
If necessary, bend the brass wire forwards or backwards to achieve
this freedom of movement. A dab of Vaseline at this point of contact
is helpful.
2. Grasp the
verge wire as shown. The verge wire must be supported between thumb
and fingers and may be bent in either direction. This changes the
beat position. Only a very slight movement is required normally. If
moved too far right or left, no tick at all will be heard. Make
minor adjustments right or left until beat position is correct. This
position can be heard as a nice evenly spaced tick tock.
