400 day (Anniversary clocks)
The most
vital part of this clock is the thin wire "spring" from which the pendulum is
suspended. It is only a little thicker than a human hair and must be treated
with great care so that it does not become twisted or bent. Your clock has been
equipped with a HOROLOVAR TEMPERATURE COMPENSATING SUSPENSION SPRING which is
the best and toughest spring available. It should last forever under normal
service and strains, but will not stand abuse.
To get the most satisfaction and enjoyment from your clock, the person in charge
of it should carefully review the operating instructions.
WINDING THE CLOCK This clock is engineered to run for a full year on one
complete winding. Insert the key on the winding arbor on the back and wind the
clock until you begin to feel an increase in resistance. STOP!
LEVEL THE
CLOCK
While gently holding the pendulum, release the pendulum locking mechanism until
the pendulum is free and clear of the device. Most pendulums have a locating
guide positioned at the bottom that must be centered in the guide cup. The base
must be adjusted as so the guide is centered in the cup by adjusting the
leveling feet if so equipped. If levelers are not provided, the base must be
leveled by placing layers of cardboard under the base until the pendulum is
centered in the cup.
STARTING THE CLOCK
Set the clock to the correct time by turning the minute hand (big hand)
clockwise until the correct time is displayed. If the hand continues to move
rapidly or flutters do not be concerned. This indicates that the escapement is
free and properly in adjustment. Just move the hand to the correct
time (forwards or backwards.)
GENTLY start the clock by rotating the pendulum either direction 3/4 to ONE (1)
full turn and release. (Fig. 2) Check the time setting once again and adjust if
necessary.
Replace the Glass dome if equipped and enjoy!
WARNING!!
DO NOT MOVE THE CLOCK WITHOUT THE PENDULUM IN THE LOCKED
POSITION!
TO ADJUST FOR ACCURATE TIME KEEPING
Allow the clock to run for ONE (1) WEEK. If adjustment is necessary, remove the
dome and carefully stop the pendulum. With the pendulum at rest determine if the
clock is running FAST or SLOW. If the clock is running FAST,grasp the base of
the pendulum and GENTLY rotate the regulating disc towards the S or R (SLOW OR
RETARD) as directed on the adjust. Only a very small amount (1/16th of a turn)
should be attempted at a time. If the clock is running slow, do just the
opposite, rotate towards the F or A (FAST or ADVANCE). (Fig. 1)
Allow the clock to run for several days before attempting any more adjustments.
If further adjustment is necessary, use the previous adjustment as a guide as to
how much to turn the disk the next time. |
